Edison Academy

Overview

The Edison Academy is one of six academies in the Fairfax County Public School system. It is located at Thomas A. Edison High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The Edison Academy offers advanced, technical and specialized courses that primarily focus on careers in the clusters of:

  • Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources

  • Architecture and Construction

  • Business Management and Administration

  • Education and Training

  • Health Science

  • Hospitality and Tourism

  • Information Technology

  • Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security

  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

  • Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics

Most programs will prepare students to earn national certifications of proficiency in their career related studies. Academy programs will emphasize career experiences with local and regional businesses. Students take classes at their home “base” school and may earn one or two credits at the Academy. Multiple sessions are taught each day to provide a variety of opportunities for students to participate in the Academy experience.

  • Students who enroll in the Academy typically have a strong career interest in their subject matter.

  • Academy courses are generally not available at most High Schools.

  • Transportation between Edison and the student's home school may be provided with limitations. Contact the Academy office for more information.

  • Students participating in career experiences opportunities must provide their own transportation

The Academy is strategically located in Alexandria Virginia a short drive from the major business centers of metropolitan Washington D.C. Our students have advanced academic knowledge and are working toward advanced competency levels in their academic and technical coursework. The Academy offers the local business community a unique opportunity to become involved in the process of educating students to meet the needs of our workforce.
