Graduation Ceremony - June 1: We are excited to host the celebration of our graduates at home!! This year’s graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 1 at 6:00pm at John R. Lewis High School on our stadium field! To optimize parking, we ask that parents arrive with their students at 4:30pm. This allows for at least one family member to park in the graduate's assigned parking location. Graduates will report to the main gym entrance at 4:30 and parents can report to the stadium at that time. All ticketed guests must arrive and be seated by 5:50pm. The ceremony will begin at 6:00pm and last approximately 90 minutes.
Plan B/Rain Date - June 2, 6pm. Same as above.
Plan C: June 2. Time TBA. Ceremony would be held indoors with at least 2 “shifts” of graduates. More information to be shared (crossing our fingers we have good weather on June 1!)
EXPECTATIONS & DRESS CODE
The FIRST graduating class of John R. Lewis High School deserves a dignified ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates. Our graduation is considered a formal ceremony and we want to ensure that every student receives the respect and acclaim he or she has earned. Thus, formal attire is required for graduation.
What to Wear - Formal attire includes dresses, a suit or dress slacks with a collared shirt, and appropriate shoes. No high, pointed heels will be permitted as it may puncture the turf field. We suggest you bring the shoes you wish to wear at the graduation ceremony to rehearsal so you can practice standing/walking on the turf. Refer to the presentation if you have questions about shoes.
The tassel is the only thing to be worn on the cap, and nothing is to be attached to the gown (e.g. flowers, messages, etc.). No objects should be carried onto the stage.
Mask Mandates: We will follow the guidelines of FCPS until further notice.
Safety Graduates will be required to check-in and a safety screening before entering the gym to line up; students are only permitted a key and ID. Please note, the walk from the parking lot to the main gym, depending on where you park; keep that in mind as you choose your shoes.
Inappropriate behavior anytime during the ceremony, will result in the immediate removal of the student from the event. Any student removed from graduation will be issued their diploma at a later date, pending an appointment with the principal and senior administrator.
Tickets - Each graduate was promised 4 tickets and could request up to 2 additional tickets for a maximum of six tickets. All seniors have been assigned a set of numbered tickets and will receive their tickets at the end of rehearsal along with their cap & gown. Please check your tickets before leaving school on Monday. Lost tickets will not be replaced.
Friends and family who are not able to attend will still be able to watch the ceremony, as we will be live streaming this year! The live streaming will be available here: https://boxcast.tv/view/lewis-high-school-graduation-412400
· Each senior will have 1 “assigned” parking space for their family.
· Lots have been color-coded for easy identification.
· Graduates will receive parking information along with a parking pass at the rehearsal on Monday. You will need to display the parking pass on your dashboard as you enter on campus, so do not lose it.
· Limited handicapped parking spaces will also be available.
Every effort will be made to address the special parking needs noted in the senior questionnaire, but there are no guarantees.
There is limited parking available on school grounds. Guest parking will be available at the Springfield Mall, Key Middle School and Forestdale Elementary.
Shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes from the mall to the entrance of the stadium to transport guests. More information will be shared with the graduates at rehearsal on Monday, May 24th.
